We work in a Library. In a University. If ever a place was going to be full of enchantment and wonder, with the potential to change not just the future of mankind but of the very universe itself, this would be it.
You'd think so, wouldn't you?

Dear Anonymous, that pronunciation is too complicated for my simple ears! From wikipedia, my one authoritative nickel research source on anything and everything, it sounds like:
ReplyDeleteEhy-vaa-za-oorkh
Thanks Dishwasher Crab. The news here on this side of the pond hasn't mentioned the name of our blowing, glowing volcano phenomenon probably because no one here including the newsreaders would get the pronunciation right. But sure enough due to the airline holdups, it's the top newsstory.
Anonjan - Well done, I think you've cracked it!
ReplyDeleteSnacky - nice to know that your newsreaders even try to say the name. Here they pronounce it as "theicelandicvolcano", which I don't think is entirely correct.
"Bjork!" - that's how you pronounce it.....
ReplyDeleteI did Swedish at uni you know.
ReplyDeletenot that that is Swedish....
ps is it falling on you - it's falling on us
Anonjan
Hello Cheadle, how are you? 'Bjork' is probably more the sound a burping volcano makes, rather than the actual name of the volcano.
ReplyDeleteGood luck for Tuesday night! If I see the Cheadle Lushes at the match tomorrow I'll encourage them to go and support you, maybe even bring their famous banner along.
Anon, no I didn't know you spoke Swedish. I'm impressed!
Ah, well you see, I happen to know that Anonjan is a master of many languages, she speaks fluent Double Dutch you know. She's also a bit of a Dr Doolittle in catspeak too.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that you are bouncing again my dear Crab, and I don't think it's with excitement.
I could just say Mow purr.
ReplyDeleteBut instead I'll ask what Corrie is like now.
I don't see it, but I remember Martha Longhurst dying in the Rovers' snug
I cannot remember how Ena Sharples and Minnie Caldwell eventually bought it though....

Hello Ladies! Sorry about the Bouncing Crab thing - it seems to be a permanent state for me these days, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteI imagine dying quietly in your favourite pub is rather a nice way to go - unless of course you'd just got a round in, in which case it would be a bit of a waste.
I don't remember the demise of the other two either, I think I was living in a non-Corrie country by then.
Hi there, my 2 cents about Corrie- right now a bunch of really odd pairings that will, in lovely Rita's words "all end in tears." More interesting will be Blanche's funeral. Wow, now that I think of it, Corrie is dragging a bit...suffering from not having someone like Blanche around. I really miss the "snap, crackle, pop" she brought to any scene she was in-- big or small. :-( {sigh!}
